My Life As A Pioneer, Ferndale, WA

For 19 years now I have been part of a really cool organization. The Ferndale Heritage Society. This Heritage Society is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the physical and thoughtful history of the city of Ferndale.
The Societies main goal is to maintain the prosperity of Pioneer Park. Pioneer park is located in the city center and is home to 12 restored and preserved cabins from Whatcom County (Rumored: more to come). These cabins are filled with artifacts from the areas history and are fully functioning museums and homes. These cabins are open to the public twice a year with private towards and school programs available every year!
Every year the Ferndale Herritage Society teams up with the Ferndale Olde Settlers and puts together different events. In the Summer the whole city becomes involved and is the week of old settlers picnic, the week where some of the first settlers in Ferndale got together and had a picnic for more than 100 years ago and today this organization keeps this tradition alive. There is a parade on the weekend, live music through out the week and events at the park. Pioneer park is open to the public for free during the summer. There is tons of food vendors and fun different vendors with fun merchandise. In the evening there is even Beer Garden in the Barn! The main event is the open homes. Each home is open for everyone to come in and visit. There are many fun crafts and even maybe some snacks! Its great fun for everyone! There is also car shows and possible carnivals every year!

During the Winter is one of the most beautiful Christmas events I have ever experienced. The Olde Fashion Christmas is open to the public for a small fee that goes to our society to keep the cabins up and running! Each cabin is open and has different activities for children. In the school house children can write letters to Santa and then go to the next house, the Post Office, and mail them. Every letter is answered by Santa and his little elves, NO LIE! Santa is usually hiding in one of the cabins available for children to come sit on his lap and make there Christmas wish! Each of the other cabins include other fun crafts and of course Christmas treats for the kids, and adults if you dare. When the weather is superb the Barn is filled with horses and there is even an awesome horse carriage ride around the town to see all the beautiful lights all the great people of Ferndale Display.

The summer event usually happens during the last week in July and the Winter event is always the first full weekend in December.

Please message me or visit www.ferndaleheritagesociety.com

This is something I am super passionate about so please spread the word and we would love to see you all in the summer!!
Here are a few photos of a few things that I found beautiful. Being as I am a volunteer it was hard for me to get out and take pictures of all the festivities but these are a few things that I found amazing.

Crock POT!

Ha! I know this has nothing to do with my photography but hey why not!

This week my boyfriend bought me a newer and bigger programmable crock pot! I love it!

This week i decided to make a rendition of buffalo shredded chicken that I found on Pintrest! You can find the original link here---> "Buffalo Shredded Chicken"

Instead of using buffalo sauce cause the BF doesn't like spicy food I used his favorite. Baby Rays Honey Barbecue sauce! And I added a small dash of hot sauce...shhh don't tell =) i put 6 chicken breast (frozen) in the crock pot and put in probably about three cups of the sauce (I eyeballed it!) and then a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch mix.

The recipe didn't say what to pair it with so we ate it like pulled pork. On a nice warm dinner roll! It was very yummy. A nice way to warm up out of the cold 19 degree weather we are having over here.

Here is what it looked like:

This dinner was fantastic! I also made some corn to go on the side, YUMMY! felt like summer all over again. I love cooking with my crock pot and I cant wait to keep posting more for you all!

Ill get back to the photography soon! just gotta get through writing a few papers and editing pictures from my mini vacation!
